At Linchfield we are proud of our Reading for Pleasure Culture.
We were delighted to achieve the Lincolnshire Reading Pledge Silver Award recently.
The Lincolnshire Reading Pledge, created by Witham St Hugh’s English Hub and L.E.A.D. Teaching School Hub in collaboration with Professor Teresa Cremin (Reading for Pleasure & The Open University), champions the joy and importance of reading.
At Linchfield, we believe that reading for pleasure can transform lives. The pledge aims to ensure every child – whatever their background, needs, or abilities – becomes a confident, fluent, and enthusiastic reader.
Earning this award was a true team effort. A huge thank you must go to parents and carers for supporting our children with initiatives such as the Summer Reading Challenge and World Book Day.
We’re excited to continue our Reading Pledge journey this year as we set our sights on Gold!
Reading Ambassadors
A special shout-out goes to our incredible Reading Ambassadors, who are really keen to promote a love of reading both in school and across our local community. They are currently thoroughly enjoying sharing books with our EYFS children at break times. Last This year they were delighted to become part of the Shadowing group for the Carnegie Greenaway Awards and are looking forward to taking part again this year.
Our Y6 Reading Ambassadors run an amazing lunchtime reading club for children from Y3/4.
We have already enjoyed many fantastic virtual author events this year, including one with the inspiring local author Hannah Gold and Michael Rosen’s very entertaining Poetry Party.
We are truly excited that we have a visit arranged from award winning poet Valerie Bloom in March, kindly funded by the PTA. Valerie has an MBE for her services to poetry and has won many awards including the Smarties award for her children’s book Fruits.
We are also very much looking forward to sharing our book recommendations and our love of reading with the children at the Jofi School in Gambia, following our successful story session with them last year.

Linchfield Staff Book Club
In November, the Book Club met to discuss the author, Holly Webb. We are fortunate to have several different stories by this author in school. The adults who read them believe that they would be perfect for animal lovers or children who believe in magic!
The series follows a little girl called Molly who can talk to animals. Her love for them inspires her to use her magical ability to help the animals through their troubles. The texts also explore common themes of friendship.
Linchfield Book Club recommends these books to children in Year 2 (confident readers), 3 and 4. Books written by the author Holly Webb, can be found in the Year 3 and 4 area.
Please ask Mrs Bates if you need any help. Happy reading!
Staff will be meeting in December to discuss the books of author Hannah Gold. We have several of these books in school and following a virtual author event with Hannah, they are proving very popular!
Outdoor Reading Area
September 2025 saw the grand opening of our super new outdoor reading area.
The reading shelter was purchased with a generous donation from The Breedon Group, and we would like to thank them for helping us to develop this fantastic new addition to our ‘Reading for Pleasure Culture’.
The outdoor area was transformed by Skill Step Group which means that the children can enjoy reading in a peaceful and pleasant environment.
A huge thank you goes to everyone involved in this project for their hard work and generosity. Children have been having a wonderful time in the new area, reading and sharing books with friends.
